What the Papers Say:
Where have all the flowers gone?
That’s the question Pontefract Lioness Club are asking?
For the past three years Pontefract Lioness club have planted and maintained the two flower troughs in Pontefract Town Centre as part of the Pontefract in Bloom competition and whilst most people like to see the troughs full of flowers there is obviously one or two people who want to deprive the community of this as they have removed over half of the plants from one of the troughs whilst they are in full bloom. Lioness Secretary Jeannette Morgan said ‘we regularly find empty bottles and glasses thrown into the troughs on a weekend but I couldn’t believe my eyes when we came to water the troughs last week and found all the flowers had been taken out of one half of the trough. We quite often find that a few plants have been pulled out and left on the top of the soil but this time the plants have completely disappeared. We only hope that whoever has taken them has planted them in their own garden and gets the pleasure of seeing them everyday – something which they have deprived the rest of Pontefract of’. This however does not mean the Pontefract Lioness Club have given up – we will be planted ready for the Summer judging of Pontefract in Bloom whichtakes place on Monday 11th July and the troughs will be fully replenished and looking their best again by then.
