Lions Clubs International President Wing-Kun Tam challenged Lions around the world to plan 1 million trees this year to demonstrate the strength of their global network. So far this has been exceeded by almost 6 million and Pontefract Lioness club are pleased to say they have helped to do this.
Manor Park Nursing Home, Cutsyke expressed an interest in some fruit trees for their garden and with the help of The Growing Zone at Kippax, www.growingzone.btck.co.uk we were able to provide them with 3 fruit trees (apple, plum and pear), a rowan tree and 5 blackthorn trees.
Further more the Club are also in the process of providing 60 trees of varying types for Orchard Head School, Pontefract and expect these to be ready for planting in the next few weeks.
Activities Chairman, Jeannette Morgan said, “Pontefract Lioness Club are keen to support the local community not only with fund-raising but also with service projects. We continue to look after the horse troughs in Pontefract Town Centre as part of Pontefract in Bloom and we work closely with our local Lions Clubs on a number of projects including the Message in a Bottle Scheme where we have distributed over 10,000 bottles in the local area. We have recently inducted one new member to the Club and have another two about to join but we are always looking for more members. Any ladies in the local area who would like to do something different whilst meeting new friends and helping the local community should contact Lioness Jeanne/Jeannette Morgan on 01977 704591.
